Heated Driveways

Heated Driveways in Northwest Indiana

A hydronic snow-melt system poured into new concrete keeps your drive, walks, and steps clear through lake-effect winters, with no shovel, no plow, and no salt.

How a Hydronic Driveway Works

  • Remove. The existing driveway comes out and the base is prepared and compacted.
  • Insulate and lay tubing. Rigid insulation goes down, then PEX tubing is laid in a planned pattern and pressure-tested.
  • Pour. New reinforced concrete is placed over the tubing.
  • Connect and automate. A dedicated boiler circulates warm fluid, and a snow sensor turns the system on when it detects snow or ice.

Hydronic or Electric?

Hydronic circulates a heated water-and-glycol mix through tubing and suits larger drives and full replacements. This is our focus.

Electric uses heating cable or mats and can suit smaller areas such as steps or a short walk. We’ll tell you plainly which one fits your property.

Heat Only What You Need

  • The full driveway, edge to edge
  • Tire tracks only, to manage cost
  • The incline, the apron, or the shaded north side that never thaws
  • Front walks, porch steps, and patios

Who It’s For

  • Steep or long drives that are hard to clear
  • Homes near the lake that see heavy lake-effect snow
  • Households where a fall on ice is a real concern
  • Owners who are away for the winter and want the property accessible
  • Homes with decorative concrete or stone that salt would damage

The Benefits

  • Safety. Clear, dry surfaces for family and guests.
  • No salt. Salt scars concrete, stains stone, and burns lawns. You won’t need it.
  • Less wear. No plow blades or ice chipping against the surface.
  • Effortless mornings. Open the garage and go.

What to Expect

A heated driveway melts snow as it falls on the heated area. In the heaviest storms, drifting or extreme cold can slow it down, so we design coverage and controls around how you use the drive and set expectations honestly before you commit.

Our Process

  • 1. Site visit. We measure, look at slope, drainage, and sun exposure, and discuss which areas matter most.
  • 2. Design and proposal. Coverage, boiler location, controls, and a written scope and schedule.
  • 3. Installation. Removal, insulation, tubing, and pour, managed start to finish.
  • 4. Startup. The system is filled, tested, and the sensor set.
  • 5. Walkthrough. We show you how it runs and what it needs.

Eyes on Your Project, Wherever You Are

Many of our clients travel, winter elsewhere, or simply can’t be home during construction. On every concrete project, our firm sets up a secure job-site camera so you can check progress from your phone, anytime. See the demo day, the heat lines going in, and the final pour without rearranging your schedule. The camera is mounted on a post and faces only the work area, never your windows or your neighbors’. It’s one more way we keep you informed and confident from start to finish.

Questions

How much does a heated driveway cost?

It depends on the size of the area, how much of it is heated, and the boiler setup. You’ll get a written proposal after the site visit.

Can you add heat to my existing driveway?

A hydronic system goes in with new concrete, so the existing drive is removed and replaced. For small areas, an electric option may be possible without a full replacement.

How long does installation take?

It depends on size and weather. Your proposal includes a schedule.

What does it cost to run in an Indiana winter?

Operating cost depends on fuel type, heated area, and how often it snows. Automatic sensors run the system only when needed. We’ll walk through the estimate for your home.

When should I plan the project?

Concrete work is done in warmer months, so planning in winter or early spring puts you in line for a heated drive by the next snow.
